The cover of an Orthodox Christian gospel made for the parish of St Stephen and St Germain in Vezelay, France.
It is faithful to the gospel made by the great Russian iconographer Leonid Ouspensky: his gospel cover can be seen in the Orthodox parish of Notre Dame Joie des Affliges in Paris.
The repoussé cover is made from sheet brass. The relief is enhanced by the patina;
this is important as it is often seen in candlelight.
